Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 13, 2026

Chowder ("Chowder," "we," "us") is based in Victoria, BC, Canada. This policy explains what information we collect when you join the waitlist, plan a get-together, or RSVP, and how we use it. By using Chowder, you agree to the practices described here.

Information we collect

  • Waitlist signup: your email address (required), your city, and your phone number (optional, only if you choose to provide it).
  • Planning a get-together: the event title, date and time, location, your name as host, and any notes you add.
  • RSVPs: the name, headcount, and response (yes/maybe/no) you submit when responding to an event.

How we use it

We use your email to let you know when Chowder opens in your city. If you give us a phone number and check the consent box, we'll send a one-time text confirming you're on the waitlist, and may send occasional updates about Chowder's launch. We use event and RSVP details only to run the get-together feature — showing hosts their headcount and letting invitees see who's coming.

Text messages (SMS)

Text messages are sent only if you provide your phone number and explicitly consent. Message frequency varies — typically a one-time confirmation plus occasional launch updates. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP at any time to opt out, or HELP for help. We use Twilio to deliver these messages.

Who we share it with

We don't sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that help us run Chowder: Convex (our database and backend provider) and Twilio (our SMS delivery provider). These providers are only permitted to use your information to provide services to us.

How long we keep it

We keep waitlist, event, and RSVP information for as long as it's useful for running Chowder, or until you ask us to delete it.

Your choices

You can opt out of texts anytime by replying STOP. You can ask us to access, correct, or delete your information, or remove you from the waitlist, by emailing us at the address below.

Children's privacy

Chowder isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
